Automotive Tips from Gilmore's Auto Service: Making a Battery Last Longer

Posted March 24, 2024 8:22 AM

One thing all Walnut Creek drivers can do to extend the life of their battery is to keep it clean. A greasy, dirty battery holds in damaging heat. Same goes for removing corrosion from the terminals. Gilmore's Auto Service can help maintain your battery.

Allowing your battery to be deeply depleted – like from using your headlights when the engine is off – is very harmful to your battery. Most automotive batteries can only take that about 10 times before they are ruined.

Also, making sure you have a full charge every month or so extends battery life. Either an extended drive at freeway speeds around the Walnut Creek are or using a battery charger will preserve your battery’s ability to hold a full charge.

I own a 2006 Ford Expedition that required a new driver’s seat motor system, allowing the seat to move forward and recline. I bought a used one from EBay Motors. But I needed to get someone to install. Josh and two other mechanics installed the system. Not sure if many auto shops would have attempted. Had some doubts whether it would work - a combination of system I bought and / or installing it properly. Success. Took almost three hours, with three mechanics help. Very pleased.
